It looks like we have a big update on the Sony Disney deal after the hope of negotiations died out last week when Sony CEO Tony Vinciquerra said that the door was closed.
It’s been a rough couple of weeks to be a spider-man fan with us lovingly referring to the whole situation as Schroedinger’s Spider here at the channel because the character is pretty much doing the hokey-cokey in terms of whether he’s in or out.
Whether you blame Disney or Sony I don’t think anyone can deny that the entire thing has been an absolute mess but as fans, we just want the character back where he belongs with the MCU.
Today We Got This Covered, Marvel Studio Spoilers and several other sources have reported that there are actually still negotiations ongoing on the character and that there is a new deal being put on the table from Sony.
You can find the article here https://wegotthiscovered.com/movies/sony-offered-disney-deal-30-spiderman/ but according to them the same source that leaked that She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel were in production long before the D23 Expo said that there is a current deal on the table that will see Disney get 30% of Spider-man however, Sony want Venom to be part of the MCU and for them to have a similar deal to the old Spider-man situation.
The source says,
Marvel NEEDS Spider-Man in the MCU, and they’re willing to do anything, as long as it’s a little bit fair. They have/had huge plans for Peter Parker as well as his quintessential antagonist Norman Osborn.
What they’ve proposed (and what Sony will hopefully accept) is a deal that will benefit both sides while allowing the MCU and SUMC to continue acting as separate entities.
Whilst people are scratching their heads over this I actually think it could allow a live-action Miles Morales to be brought into the cinematic universe as the second spider-man and this comes hot off the back of Tom Holland saying last week that he would love to appear on-screen with him.
Norman Osborne In The MCU
The Norman Osborne aspect is interesting as there were a lot of rumors that he was originally in a post credits scene for Far From Home with many special effects artists saying that they worked on the scene but whether this is actually true or not we just don’t know.
I think that this deal sounds very interesting and at this point, Sony are clearly holding all of the cards over the entire thing with them having the ability to either allow Disney to have their Golden Boy or not.
Whilst Sony may not be the bad guys in all of this you have to admit that theres not really that much confidence in the studio with Kevin Smith even saying on his podcast: Fatman On Batman that he doesn’t think they will be able to handle it.
Venom In The MCU
If this rumor does turn out to be true and there is still a deal on the table I think this is a good one and last week there were rumors that Venom was part of negotiations which seems to be a story that is gaining a lot of traction due to his inclusion here.
Personally I just want this entire thing over and for us to have a definitive plan going ahead of what either Sony will be doing if the character remains out of the MCU or if he’s back at Disney what will be happening from now on. The Far From Home Cliffhanger was agonising and add all this drama to it it’s just crazy how things are transpiring right now.
Obviously I’d love to hear your thoughts on the entire situation and if you think this is a good deal or not. Do you believe the reports and what do you hope to see in the MCU if Venom is ever brought over. Comment below and let me know!
